PAN ARABISM

Pan Arabism is the concept of cultural nationalism emerged from the ideological frame work defined by Sharif of Mecca in 1915-16 to get liberty from Ottoman Empire , followed by Arsuzi and Aflaq against colonism in 1930 ‘s and reinvented by Gamal Abdn Naseer in 1960 ‘s against and followed till mid 80 ‘s but collapsed afterwards . The concept of Pan Arabism is secular in nature and does not follow religious boundaries . The conceptual and ideological frame work revolves around the concept that All Arab countries of Middle East must unite to form a single nation state . The followers of Pan Arabism are Muslims as well as followers of other religions residing in Middle East region This philosophy gave prime importance to the formation of a state as a collective choice of all Arabs . Individual ‘s choice of selection and liberty is basic concept behind Pan Arabism

SCHMITT ‘S ARGUMENT REGARDING STATE AND IDENTITY

Schmitt argument is in favor of the authoritarian concept of state . His ideology is in favor of the power than to justice . His political thought revolves around the concept of concentration of power and authority within the state and he believes that shrewd and bold are destined to rule (Paul Gottfried , pg 52 ) Schmitt gave community importance over individual liberty . He argues that state is the only actor that can provide political identity to individuals despite his so called existential choice concept of political identity that is in contradiction with empirical argument of state creation of identity . His concept gave greater importance to the role of state in shaping identity . Individual will is not considered when state has given importance . People are forced to follow the ideological frame work govern by state even if they are not agree with the concept

There are several occasions in the history those prove that role of state in defining identity is limited , instead leaders have charisma power and dynamism to shape identity . State could only imposed identity the role of state in reproducing identity is limited

ROLE OF THE STATE IN CREATING POLITICAL IDENTITY

According to Schmitt state is a group of contending powers (Gottfried , 118 ) In his opinion state have coercive and contending powers . He further argues that power to make exceptions to customary legality in to deal with emergencies determine sovereignty of state . Schmitt define state ‘s functions as preserving and containment of rival states and internal parities . Schmitt did not favor the democratic ideology as it paved ways to society .
