Although a governmental entity , the VA Medical Center has undergone each of the organization life cycles , of which its current stage is the final , old age cycle

During the gestation stage , the bureaucratic nature of the organization is small with divisions of labor having overlapping tasks . Generally there is a one-person management team and no written rules are devised (Liebler McConnell , 2004 . Most organizations in this stage employ an administrative secretary but no professional staff . Internal systems are xistent and there are no task forces for coordination

As the organization advances to the youth stage it also evolves into a prebureaucratic stage (2004 ) with various departments beginning to divide labor responsibilities . Two leaders manage the youth stage as a few rules are introduced in formal format and clerical responsibilities show a significant increase . Rudimentary budgets and information systems are introduced and leaders begin to explore and implement plans for coordination

The middle stage is that of a bureaucratic nature as the organization has expanded to include many departments and department heads . Policy procedures and manuals are created and implemented during this stage while organizations also implement control systems , increase and monitor budgets , device and conduct performance reviews and other pertinent reports . Integrators and task forces are created , making the overall process of operation run more smoothly

At the old age stage , the organization has expanded to a large size and operated under a very bureaucratic premise . Labor is divided in to many extensive departments each employing specific roles for subdivisions of duties (e .g . many small jobs and a variety of job s Management is also more centralized with the majority of organizational decisions resting on the shoulders of top management (e .g . administrator and director (Liebler McConnell , 2004 . Administrative personnel are dispersed throughout many large departments . As the organization continues to mature during this stage , internal systems become more extensive with a major focus places on planning , finances , and continued monitoring of existing personnel while exploring options for taking on new personnel . Coordination is divided among the departments with respective leaders shouldering the responsibility for maintaining most aspects of business and action
