The human mind is a very powerful tool and what we get inside it will forever determine the kind of a person one becomes . Personally , I had low self-esteem as I grew up because I never believed in myself and thought that I was meant to be a failure in life . Nothing I did seemed right and my school performance was so poor especially in my lower grades that fellow classmates used to make fun of me . My father has always stood by me and encouraged me even when there seemed to be no hope . My school life was full of ups and downs . This is because I never believed in myself and I always dreaded facing challenges including sitting for exams , hence developed low self esteem My low self-esteem was caused by the fact that fellow students made fun of me in school and I was not good in many subjects . I felt like the black sheep of the family despite my parents providing everything materially . In my 7th grade my father took the initiative and talked to me about taking baby steps . His approach was that it doesn ‘t matter what goal one wants to achieve , being positive and working towards it patiently would ensure success in the long run . My classmates used to laugh at me even in my lower grade classes and this really affected my self-courage negatively such that my studies were getting affected and I was even getting bouts of depression . My father encouraged me and we started working on my self-esteem because he believed in me . I was to start with filling my mind with positive thoughts about my life and walk with my head high . This made me want to work hard on my subjects including my science subjects and at the end of the week we would review my performance and receive input from my father . I spend more and more time studying and revising . It was not easy because sometimes I could fail and cry so much but my father still comforted me , pushed me and encouraged me to focus and concentrate and somehow I got to understand the concepts revolving around my studies
My grades not only went up but I also got to improve my social life and the other children noticed this and the teasing stopped . For the first time in my life I commanded respect from my classmates . My fellow classmates would come for consultations with me on areas of study where they had challenges . I started excelling in all my subjects and with time I took charge of my life and could make wise decisions concerning my life . My father made me learn that challenges are meant to build someone and prepare them for the future . I never though I would make it for college because my future looked so dim .
