The word Shakers is popular name for members of the United Society of Believers in Christ ‘s Second Appearing , also called the Millennial Church . This word originated as a mocking of the practice of their HYPERLINK “http /en .wikipedia .org /wiki /Ritual ” \o “Ritual rituals of trembling , shouting , dancing , shaking , singing , and HYPERLINK “http /en .wikipedia .org /wiki /Glossolalia ” \o “Glossolalia glossolalia . Shakers were renowned for their original styles of vocal music , crafts , and architecture and more specifically Shaker Furniture

is a product of their beliefs and practices . Do your work as though you had a thousand years to live and as if you were to die tomorrow , is one of the teachings of the Shakers that they have adhered to and is reflected in their work and craftsmanship . The idea that form follows function was further enriched by their dedication to hard work and perfection The main reason that the Shakers are renowned for their craftsmanship has its roots in their spirituality and the belief of Put (ing ) your hands to work , and your heart to God

This thesis submits the proposition that the success of Shaker furniture is due to their deep spiritual belief in God and in offering their hard work to God as an act of prayer . This will be established by examining the foundations of the Shaker religion and pinpointing the beliefs that show the basis for the perfection that each Shaker tries to attain with every item that is crafted . The different beliefs that make the Shaker religion similar with other religions will also be assessed to provide a better insight into how these beliefs might also manifest the spiritual influence that religion has on the craft of a person from another perspective as well .
