Dear Mayor

The town council ‘s recent reference to Indian and Pakistani residents as being basically the same people with the same culture , as you know , has created quite a stir . There is , in fact , quite a difference in the culture of these two peoples . One example of the difference in culture can be observed in the musical tastes of the people . Indian music is highly diversified , ranging from North Indian Hindustani and South Indian Carnatic classical music to highly regionalized forms of popular music , including Filmi , and folk music , like Bhangra [banner_entry_middle]

. Many classical Indian dance forms exist , often having a narrative form and are usually infused with devotional and spiritual elements . The variety of Pakistani music ranges from diverse provincial folk music and traditional styles to modern forms fusing traditional and western music Hip-Hop is one of the categories in Pakistan that is rising very fast especially among children and teenagers . The arrival of Afghan refugees in the western provinces has rekindled Pashto and Persian music and established Peshawar as a hub for Afghan musicians and a distribution centre for Afghan music abroad

These two peoples would not want to be considered the same primarily due to a long-standing animosity over territory and religion . The majority of Pakistanis are Muslims while the majority of Indians are of Hindu faith . In 1947 , Britain dismantled its Indian empire , partitioning the Indian sub-continent into Hindu-dominated India and the Muslim state of Pakistan . Severe rioting ensued with an estimated half million people killed and about a million people homeless . India and Pakistan first went to war in October 1947 , ending in January 1949 . The territory of Jammu and Kashmir has remained in dispute since then , with Pakistan and India both holding sectors . Since that time , India and Pakistan have been at war repeatedly , including the Indo-Pakistani Wars of 1965 and 1971 and the 1999 Kargil Conflict . These wars all led to many population exchanges and the eventual nuclear arms race and threat of nuclear war

In America , Indian and Pakistani ethnic communities tend to concentrate in the same areas in the country . The majority of them work closely with each other in similar workplaces , primarily showing each other respect . However , it is believed that about one third of Indian-Americans are Muslims . In most evaluations , the Indian-Muslims are essentially completely aligned with the Pakistani-Americans with respect to core issues and concerns . Moreover , even the Hindu Indian-Americans are aligned with the Pakistani-Americans with respect to the domestic issues of civil rights and other concerns in the United States

As you can see from the aforementioned information , some restraint and sensitivity should be used in the future in regards to making sweeping statements that group very dissimilar people . I also feel that an official apology should be issued to clear up the matter… [banner_entry_footer]
